Im currently working on my Random Words Dictionary Page for the Art Quest Challenge, the idea is to flick through a dictionary without looking and tear out a page and pick 1 word from the page which you wouldnt normally use in your artwork. Glue and use it on your page and decorate in that theme.
Ive chosen my dictionary page, I landed on the letter D, and Ive painted my altered book pages a lovely shade of green, Ive also glued the dictionary page down on the altered book but Ive still not decided which word Im going to use as my theme! Hard decisions!
Update: After much thought about this Ive decided Im going to use either the word DIVERSION or DIVERGE.
For my inspiration to create this page Im going to use the poem by Robert Frost:
The Road Not Taken –
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
– Robert Frost 1915
Now to put my plan into ACTION and get making it!
Now that Ive finished my swaps and gift making for the swaps I can now get finishing off my challenge art! I did the next stage last night, what Ive done is glued torn kitchen tissue around the edges of the page to give it a lumpy bumpy kinda texture which I plan to paint.
Heres the scan of this ugly stage:
Ok Ive finished the challenge page!
First of all I painted the texturous border around the pages with various colours of green acrylic paint as I wanted it to resemble leaves and bushes..
Next I printed out the poem I mentioned earlier and sprayed it with colour wash sprays and edged it in gold krylon. I stuck it down on the left flap.
Finally I doodled on the right hand side with watercolours to make it look a little like a map with a path on it with trees and a pond and I drew a circle around the word I chose on the dictionary page ‘diverge’.
