Want To Join The Art Alphabet Project?

I want to do an art study of the alphabet as my new up and coming project and I am now putting out a call for others who may be interested in taking part.

Im not 100% sure of the exact hows and whys as yet, Im still frantically making lots of notes about it and making it up as I go along (as usual) But this is the rough idea I have for it so far:

Basically it will take place in the styles and formats of  Lynne Perrella and her books: Alphabetica and Art Journals and Sketchbooks.

Other publications which may be of interest for this are: True Colors and Signatures by Somerset.

We wont be actually following the techniques etc in books mentioned, I have  just listed them to give you an idea of what style I have in mind for this project.

For this art-venture we’ll each need either a sketchbook or a hardback book we can alter and decorate – you can choose either, whichever your comfortable with. And for this particular group study we would be dedicating each page in our books to a letter of the alphabet.

Ive been wanting to do a project like this for a while as I think it would be a good personal challenge, but I got to thinking that it would be so much more fun if other people got involved with it too and played along.

Which is why Im posting this message, Im calling out for art addicts, background junkies, collage chixs and mixed media misfits to join me on the art journey.

If YOU would like to take part in this, leave me a message on this blog post or send me an email and I will send you an invite to the special group I am going to set up just for this study.

I hope you will take the proverbial bull by the horns and join me on this new exciting art journey!

  1. Hi Trish! I’d be interested provided it is a self-study kind of thing and provided you don’t intend for us to be making multiple copies and “trading” so-to-speak. I’ve been wanting to stretch a bit and break out of the box, so this would be a good opportunity to do so. I’m basically an art rubberstamper, but have tons of supplies and papers that would work well for this type of challenge. Thanks! Debbie Littlejohn

  2. I believe I fit all of your categories, ‘chixs, junkies & misfits! Bonus, I’m a calligrapher! I’d love to join in this project.
    Thanks Trish!

  3. Trish – Please DO NOT post my comments above.

Duly noted and the answer to all your questions is YES you can work at your own pace and I know how you feel 🙂

  4. I haven’t been doing anytihng like this for awhile, but would like to try this. I’m mainly a rubber stamper, but am a librarian and really want to do altered books. I love to doodle and alphabets sound like it could be FUN!!!

  5. I would love to take part in your alphabet challenge. Might give me the opportunity to use up a lot letter stickers I have left from my scrapbooking days. Also being fairly new to mixed media, collage etc. (about 2 years) I’m sure there will be a lot to gain from taking part. Looking forward to hearing from you with the details. Have a great weekend……Davinia

  6. Hi Trish!
I have been thinking about doing an alphabet book. I have a list of quotes that use every letter of the alphabet and have been trying to decide how to do it.
    Example: A…Accept
Accept others for who they are and for the choices they’ve made even if you have difficulty understanding their beliefs, motives, or actions.
I take it we will be working only on our own book???
Keep me informed about this project and maybe you will be the motivator to get me going.
I love your work and I enjoy reading all your posts.
Here’s to better health for all of us!

  7. Hi Trish:

I would love to be part of this project –it’s an idea that I’ve been noodling about for some time. I have even started collecting letters. I don’t have a blog or photo gallery, but if I promise to come out lurkdom and post some of pages, may I join?

  8. Would love to join you Trish, sounds like a good push start to get me going with journals again.
I have Lynne’s book, so will now actually read it.

  9. Hello Trish,

Is it to late or can I join this challenge?
I don’t know nothing about the books you tell about. Is that a problem? I like to learn new things.

    Warm wishes,

  10. Wonderful project! I’ve always been interested in alphabet art…I would also love to participate if it’s not too late. Thanks, Nan
